SPOTLIGHT ON
MIDDLE CLASS
The respect for women in Myanmar is unparalleled in the region. It has the highest levels of education among women and the lowest incidence of domestic violence. Most women control the household finances, women keep their name when they marry, and couples often live with the woman’s family after marriage. This means women in Myanmar’s growing middle class have a much greater say in brand choice than in other Asian markets, so assumptions about the role of women need to be reconsidered, and communications must reflect the real influence of women in Myanmar.
